Sons of Daughters

I watch you in the waves, sweet boy,
And see the tides of change.
Boys will be boys
Who stand up for others.
Never silence,
Only uplift.
Kindness, vulnerability,
As strength, not weakness.
No domination
Or need to save face.
When she talks,
You will listen.
Not needlessly interrupt.
Not ruthlessly try to one-up.
Hear clearly,
Not through the static blare.
See fully,
Not through lens of blinding glare.

Woman as friend.
Woman as equal.
Woman as mentor.
Woman as leader.

How simple an idea…
True teammates.
Sharing duties as makers of homes.
Sharing board rooms, abdicate thrones.
How far off it seems…

Yet, all I see are sons of daughters.
The blood of the bold and the brave.
Seeing the fight your mothers endured,
Inspired new paths you shall pave.
